Fireworks, Hogmanay 2016-2017 Edinburgh
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Some years ago I used to go to Edinburgh to see the New YEar in; I first went to Princes' Street, but when that ceased being a real party and turned into an over-managed policed nightmare, I started going up Salisbury Crags instead, from where one could hear the singing and admire the fireworks from afar.
This year, I felt even that might be overcrowded so arrived at Blackford Hill, on the south side of the city, a little before 11pm. As I set up the camera I looked behind to see a stream of people walking along the path by torchlight (or more likely, iphone light) - reminiscent of a scene in Lord of the Rings.
Midnight came. Photos happened. Thanks to modern technology - in-camera wifi and good mobile signal - I had the results uploaded to Facebook and was sitting having a much-needed cuppa tea with friends in town.
