Ariundle Oakwood 6: waterfall
An idyll. Ariundle Oakwoods, just outside Strontian, are a remaining fragment of an ancient oakwood that once stretched all the way from Portugal to Norway. A wide track leads through the woods (sadly, one of the side-routes closed for repairs), the trees covered in mosses and lichens, the forest home to rare species of butterfly, deer, badgers and even wildcats. This was one of several waterfalls we found - surprisingly tall for woodlands, tumbling down multiple cascades.
