Paraselene

Display image: Paraselene
I stood, with Dog at my side, watching the moon rise over the Caledonian Forest as clouds flowed past overhead from the north. Jupiter and Saturn rose. Too faint to notice in person, but the camera's longer exposures revealed a patch of colour - a moon-dog, technically known as a paraselene after the Greek, just where one would expect a sundog on a 22-degree halo.
