The Fairy Bridge, Glen Creran
In a native oak woodland located on the southeastern slope of Beinn Churalain, you'll find the Fairy Bridge.
About 500 years old, this charming stone footbridge spans the unfortunately named Easan Dìblidh ("vile or abject waterfall"). It features a low, uninterrupted parapet, accentuated by a series of upright stones (orthostats), giving it a whimsical and coronate appearance.
Behind this scene is a small crag that forms the Eas an Tuairnir ("The Turner's Burn") waterfall.
For various reasons I did not want to publish the photos I made on my first visit. This second time, I had the entire bridge area to myself and the duller overcast weather made the colours seem all the more vibrant. I chose this lower view, even though it mostly obscures the cascade upstream behind a boulder, because of the more dramatic lichen- and moss-covered tree branches leading in toward the bridge itself.
